Court
Royal has served as a facility for the South Wales mining industry for
nearly 60 years, during which time, it has developed into a fine 3 star
comparable hotel. Enjoying unrivalled views of the sea front and pier at
Bournemouth, on the sunny South Coast. Court Royal is open all the year
around to former mine workers, and wives, and indeed mine workers'
widows, who are able to enjoy holidays at 'not for profit' rates.
The
Court Royal has been a convalescent home for South Wales miners since
1947. If they suffered a serious accident they could have a couple of
weeks at the Court Royal to recuperate.
In 1985,
wives of miners were allowed to use the Court Royal - between April and
September but they would have to pay. The men could go from
January to March, and October to December for 1 or 2 weeks free of
charge.
Thousands of miners have stayed at the Court Royal from 1947 until this
day.
The
Court Royal was previously the Madeira Hotel. In 1898 Marconi erected a
one hundred foot experimental mast and on 3rd June it received the
world's first commercial radio message transmitted from the Royal
Needles Hotel on the Isle of Wight. |
