Air Cadets

415 Squadron

Glacier Road, Kier Hardie Estate, Twynyrodyn.

 

 

415 Squadron ATC was founded in 1941 as part of the Air Training Corps wartime scheme to train young men

for service in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. Merthyr Squadron opened at Queens Road

later moving to Glazier Road, Twyn (opposite Mencap) . Cadets are given training in the fields of aviation,

opportunities to fly and undertake adventure training.

John Smith tells us that he thinks the hut is old ATC hut at the rear of Gorsedd Tce, Penyard.

Bottom row: 4th. from left is Alan Bennett from the Grove estate, Aberfan. Sixth from left is (or forth from right!) is Howard Parker (I lived opposite him).
His parents used to run the Working Man's Club in Aberfan. Both of these lads attended Pantglas Sec. Modern School, as did I.
Last one on the far right, same row is Ken Morris from Merthyr Vale. He attended Quakers' Yard Grammer School. To my knowledge all are still on the right side of the earth!
