On the 30th of October 1966 the Queen visited Aberfan, following the Disaster. The Royal train hauled by D1054 Western Governer dropped the Queen at Merthyr Vale Station

and then ran up to Merthyr Station for the engine to run around the train ready to return to pick up the Queen.

Naming Ceremony for Diesel Locomotive 56037 - RICHARD TREVITHICK

Named by Richard Trevithick's Great, Great, Great Granddaughter. 3250hp diesel-electric engine locomotive built at Doncaster Works in 1977 and was based

at the Canton Depot in Cardiff in the 1980's. Used on heavy loads of coal, iron ore and containers. In December 2011, it was sold to EMR Scrapyard (Coopers Metals)

for scrapping.
